The Standard is The Standard
A running list written throughout my 20s of personal standards and reminders of what I want to live up to
"the one for whom it must happen fears not what will"
What can I give right now in this moment to honor my signature expression? The essence of my signature can never be robbed, just finding new channels of expression. That spark is safe. Even if one channel closes, it will find another. Until the day it fades naturally, nothing and no one can steal it. And when it does go away, you won't even be aware to know.
playing infinite games. "if you're playing, play to win. no half measures."
"If you knew this year would be your last, would you live like you currently are?" "Would I do this if I knew I only had a year to live?" "Would I be focusing on this if I only have 1 year of life left? -- Would I do this? Would I pay attention to this? Would I care about this if I knew that 2025 would be my last year of life?" - Sam Harris
Michelangelo on how he created David, "I chipped away at everything that was not David"
You may not ever have a stretch of opportune circumstances ever again in life. From peace of mind, health, youth, cultural and political environment, financial security, intelligence, lack of dependents, etc. Do not let it go to waste.

Daniel Cisneros must ask: How does this help me exponentially increase applied intelligence across humanity to increase individual freedom, truth, and prosperity?
- Founder and leader of various projects that increase applied intelligence that is relied upon by those that the projects service to make the product as useful as possible
- The individuals who are desperate to reach the Ultimate in this life are counting on you to devote everything to these projects in order to aid them in their journeys - the deadline is always now
- Forging a path towards civilizational prosperity, understanding of everything, and the power to forge our destiny across the stars
- "Education is the lifeblood of a civilization." - Joshua Dahn
- As a leader: raw truth, radical uncompromise, crystallized purity
-
You're tasked with leading the redesign of how society approaches education and needing a working solution that lays the foundation for your vision of the future
-
The standards listed below range from self-preservation to development of a team to gaining knowledge are what's expected of you on a daily basis
-
Is this addressing a symptom or root cause? If it's a symptom, have I identified the root cause, can I justify working on this rather than the root cause? If it's a root cause, how am I certain, and what clarifying, first principle questions can I ask? What questions am I not asking to get to the root cause?
-
Always ensure that the first step at the onset of any project is to state the question/problem that's being addressed re: why the mission/project/task/resource/tool exists. The more fundamental the question/problem, the better.
-
No project is viewed as too sacred for you to begin working on in earnest. Don't expect perfection anywhere up front outside of having built any momentum.

"Ask the question that you're [afraid] to know the answer to" - Jarred Geller
"How?! How can you go out there again?! After what just happened?! I don't know how you do it. You saw those people get massacred. And that's just the start." "I do it because I can't afford to take a night off. I do it because people rely on me to be there when things like this happen. I do it because I'm Batman." - Batman: The Telltale Series

"From the moment they wake, they devote themselves to the perfection of whatever they pursue. I have never seen such discipline." - The Last Samurai quote
"You don't work your entire life to do what you love to not do it" - David Senra talking about founders, and himself, incredulous about delegating away core chunks of what they do
"Here I am. Here I remain." - Frank Herbert (Dune quote by Duke Leto Atreides)
- I am fully devoted to my mission until my life has passed.
An entire civilization can live in the heart of the one human who has given themselves wholly to a grand, inspiring vision. One need only look at the second order consequences of people like Jesus, Aristotle, Elon Musk.
Most people play to indulge the appearance of playing. A few people play to play. Serious people play to win.
You will slack off at life in proportion to how replaceable or interchangeable you feel. Chosen Ones cut themselves no slack. - @vgr
- Greatness isn't comfortable.
- I must be held to the standard of who I know I am: the heart of a civilization devoted to life, truth, vitality, and freedom. This invariantly requires a relentless consistency of excellence on a daily and hourly basis along with an unshakeable vitality no matter what environment I find myself in. Excellence must be demanded by myself in each of my activities. On the timelines of decades, years, months, days, and hours, I want to be held to the standard of the heart of our civilization. That's who I know I am.
- Reporter: "Hey LeBron, do you guys feel like you're playing with house money at this point?"

Mike Tomlin on "reasonable expectations": "You need to always be a guy on the rise. That is a reasonable expectation. As opposed to just coming in here and putting in time."
"Christopher Nolan explains his mindset before making a film: 'We put a lot into the films. I had lunch with a producer a few years ago, a very successful producer, not somebody I've worked with, and he was curious about my process. At some point, I said, 'Every film I do, I have to believe that I'm making the best film that's ever been made.' He was absolutely shocked by this. It just never occurred to him that someone would think like that. And that, to me, was truly shocking, because films are really hard to make. I'm not going to say it's the hardest job in the world--I've never tried coal mining--but they are all-consuming. Your family life, everything goes into it for a couple of years. So it had never occurred to me there were people doing it who weren't trying to make the best film that ever was. Why would you otherwise? Even if it's not going to be the best film that's ever been made, you have to believe that it could be. You just pour yourself into it and when it affects someone that way, that is a huge thrill for me--huge thrill. I feel like I have managed to wrap them up in it the way I try to wrap myself up.'"

"Confidence comes from the fact that you can always access what needs to be accessed when you need it, as opposed to the feeling that you will always have it." - Kapil Gupta
"The ultimate fear is that we fear ourselves... What we fear in entering any difficult situation is that we are going to fall into our patterns of perspective and behavior and thus not be in control of ourselves. That's what we fear most. If we knew for a fact that our level of equanimity, our sense of self-control would be completely unaltered regardless of circumstance, then we wouldn't fear ourselves anymore." - Kapil Gupta
"What has mood to do with it? You fight when the necessity arises - no matter the mood! Mood's a thing for cattle or making love or playing the baliset. It's not for fighting." - Frank Herbert
- Freedom from being at the whim of your mood or feelings opens the possibility for a consistent, total focus on what needs to be done.
- When I don't feel like I have the energy to do something that is in line with my mission, I remind myself that the only way forward is through and get on with it anyway.
"What focus means is saying no to something with every bone in your body you think is a phenomenal idea, and you wake up thinking about it, but you say no to it because you're focusing on something else." - Jony Ive re: Steve Jobs
"You waste time because you have it." - Kapil Gupta
I know that no matter what, I most desire to live in freedom and without fear. Whether I become a Great or not, I truly just want to lose myself in the pursuit of maximizing intelligence and bliss/flow/equanimity. Whether I live in deep harmony with my family or am excommunicated, I truly just want to be a fountain of love for them. So I could become an old man without anyone close to him and "unaccomplished", but the only things left were a deep yearning to give myself to the things I love.
What is keeping me from > How do I.
"To live every action with discipline is perhaps the way to instant divinity." -- What does it mean to walk and speak disciplined? How will you know? This question is not answered by words after the action takes place. It is answered by the intention before the action commences. For where there is Sincerity, failure cannot exist. -- Kapil Gupta
What the mind responds to: the mind lives up to its expectations. I imagine that when new parents mark a difference in the seriousness they take life with, it's because they're placed with the expectations of being "a good parent" and being entrusted with "the most precious thing imaginable." same with me being obsessed with becoming valedictorian bc that was already my identity and expectation since 5th grade.
"stand in front of the tiger and dare him to eat you" - Kapil Gupta
"Brawn may bring the world to its feet. Sincerity brings it to its knees." - Kapil Gupta
"Natural Devotion. Uncultivated Desire. Uninvited Obsession. The universe takes care of the rest." - Kapil Gupta
What I respond most promptly to:
- "The Game" - the cutting edge of creation and understanding; the ultimate expression of vitality
- reminding myself what the Ultimate me would do (not a habit to rely/fall back on since it's a conscious intention)
- wanting to give to others and ensure that they don't feel slighted/wronged - holding true to my commitments to others
- being pressed to lead in situations where other competent people are unavailable
- taking care of my physical survival and wellbeing
- habits that i've developed over time
- being utterly fascinated with a particular subdomain/idea -- i'll often obsessively spend bursts of several hours devouring whatever I can on that particular subject until I completely exhaust the content of interest that's available (recent examples: kapil's discourses, optimal diet and laying out optimal amounts to ingest, yaron's views on free market capitalism, chess, etc)
- public commitments with deadlines - meeting hard deadlines where someone else is relying on my output in order to provide feedback
- "You have been chased, hounded ... and it has only made you stronger, more capable." - Kreia (Chris Avellone)
"Every cosmic force points toward acceleration" - Roon
"During times of freedom and maximum creativity, schedule nothing and follow all your trains of curiosity. During times of focus and maximum production, schedule close to everything, block all distractions, and methodically track everything you need to do and get it done sequentially and by descending difficulty+importance+urgency." - me /// my mind will take what's given to it, so adding hard constraints in order to achieve a goal urgently is needed
- If you only have to deal with known quantities, strict organization is efficient. But if you have to deal with a lot of change and uncertainty, messiness is efficient. Strict organization leads to rigidity in execution and thinking, which hinders fast adaptation to change. Meanwhile messiness favors exploration, optionality, and serendipity, which is what you want when you don't know what you want. - Francois Chollet
- "Disconnected research cultures often ossify, but you couldn't have engineered your way to the transistor without exploratory freedom. You must define the appropriate epistemic environment for the level of uncertainty you're operating in: If you know what to build, optimize for execution. If you don't yet know what's possible, protect discovery. The tension between pure, exploratory research and rapid, useful engineering."
"The quality of the harvest lies not in the quantity of the fertilizer, but in the fertility of the soil." - Kapil Gupta
"A great man doesn't seek to lead. He's called to it, and he answers." - Dune Movie
Greatness isn't forged through competition. It's a quest towards the ultimate.
- "He who stands upon the Earth seeking to better no man sets his sights upon the cosmos." - Kapil Gupta
- Support for your decisions is not needed. Nor a reliance on divine powers. Trust in your training. Trust in yourself. Never doubt what you have done.
"I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain." - Frank Herbert, Dune
David Goggins: Nothing in the world can stand in the way of an utterly relentless force of nature. One must become that which is able to take the soul of whatever is in front of you. Some Taking Souls moments were United 93, '16 LeBron, or the Warriors in their prime
"He could leave at any time. If his was more than just a vague ambition. If he was absolutely determined to discover the truth, there's no way we could prevent him." - The Truman Show
dodging something is conforming and adapting to your reality while stopping something is changing your reality
"Being The One is just like being in love. No one can tell you that you're in love; you just know it, through and through, balls to bones." - The Matrix
The ones who've "figured it out" often have done it to a degree that introduced orders of magnitude differences from their contemporaries to a degree even the most optimistic analysts drastically undershoot. For example, LeBron, Caitlin Clark, Elon Musk, Kapil Gupta, David Goggins, etc. Shows that there are indeed certain ways to perceive, specific ideas to act on, and singular approaches to any given craft that yield outsized returns.
Reaching for the impossible does not follow the path of logic. It is traversed with a leap of faith.
Bryan Johnson's Blueprint: Systems > willpower; data/science > human opinion; body speaking for itself via measurement > relentless self destructive mind
Relentlessly build momentum. When one's confidence, judgment, systems of knowledge creation/refinement, alignment, and decision making are in elite spaces, momentum is the fuel that turns a fire into an inferno. And anything can help fuel momentum, from self-image to physical environment. Self-image can be turned into a shield against entropy rather than a sword lunged at your neck. The person who loses everything but defines their self-image in all that was lost would lose their sense of purpose and decay, while the person whose self-image is defined independently from what was lost, in something much grander, would be able to perceive the hiccup as just that and continue on their journey, relatively undisturbed. Iteration, adaptation, and transformation, done rapidly in self-recursive/autocatalytic loops underlie all phenomena. Building momentum tips: force momentum to start via energy shocks to cross the activation threshold, continue constant iterations even if imperfect, engineer and reward small initial wins, reinforce self image as a force of nature driven on momentum, prime the physical and internal environment to be fully focused on the object of desired evolution (or to serve as activation energy based on how one's mind responds to potential stimuli), and adapt the iterative wins into a self-recursive/autocatalytic feedback system.
"Momentum is life's mechanism for evolution and creativity. Systems thrive by iterating, adapting, and transforming through recursive feedback loops, fueled by asymmetry, positive feedback, and self-organization. The key to mastery is engineering these loops so they become autonomous and exponential." - ChatGPT
- reflect on flows being a result of a primed environment and sparking/increasing momentum
- momentum can be adjusted from
- levels of friction for a task
- the problem solving method applied (what fallibilistic loops are at play)
- the mind's level of focus (influenced by Enlightenment, desire to accomplish something, the confidence to take it on)
- the body's level of focus (influenced by Vitality, literal physical rhythms influenced by movement throughout the day, stimulus like food/music/physical environmental layout/sexual energy)
- come to understand what type of conditions inevitably lead to certain results - each set of conditions will likely vary depending on what the intended outcome is (e.g. creative work needs a different environment to thrive than disciplined mechanical work than critical thinking than deep technical thinking than aesthetic design than strategic planning than etc)
- momentum can be adjusted from
"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us ... We are all meant to shine, as children do ... And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we're liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others." - Marianne Williamson
[If all else fails with the current progress of my projects/the world/loved-ones], then I am left with nothing more than what I had already - my faith in my myself and the confidence in my ability to meet what comes.
"The best is slightly overrated, but the worst is the best." - Kevin Wildes, since the worst can motivate you to get back to the top and reach new heights while the best only is enjoyed for a moment before wanting more. But the paradox is that the worst and the best can have you clench up and lose the joy and fun of playing for the love of the game. The lesson? Go out there and have fun.
